High up in the mountains overlooking Gaitania, Tolima, Nelson Hurtado and his wife and 3 daughters together run the family farm named La Granja. On this 4-hectare property surrounded by bountiful water sources, Hurtado planted Yellow Caturra seeds he got from his family in Antioquia. Hurtado was willing to take the risk of this varietal’s known susceptibility to plagues like the dreaded roya, and with agricultural knowledge and a blessed microclimate, he was able to stave off any such plagues and turn this natural process Yellow Caturra into a coffee recognized for its quality.
Río Claro is an outstandingly fruity natural process coffee, with deep notes of raspberry as well as pear, malt and chocolate, and a full body making it a robust and sweet limited edition.
